Te āheinga - The opportunity
As a result of NPDCs Organisation Transformation Review, a number of new teams and roles have been created, including the Project Management Office (PMO). NPDC has over $1B of capital projects to deliver over the next decade and the PMO plays a crucial role in delivering this significant investment efficiently and effectively for our community.
Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for an experienced project management professional to fill one of our vacant Project Manager Lead roles. The role reports to the Project Delivery Manager and oversees a team of project managers responsible for driving a portfolio of building and structures projects to successful completion.
Tino takohanga - Key responsibilities:
- Proactively contribute to the development of an effective working environment within NPDC that encourages high performance, engagement, collaboration across teams, knowledge sharing, ongoing learning, innovation and that values diversity and inclusion
- Develop and maintain a resource plan required to effectively and successfully deliver agreed team activities and targets
- Allocate, prioritise and manage team activities, and drive and monitor programme and project performance and facilitate improvements required to achieve prescribed objectives
- With support from Commercial Services, apply robust commercial practices with respect to budget setting, strategic/project procurement, contract negotiations, cost management and supply chain management that result in minimum whole-of-life costs and project cost certainty
- Monitor the performance of contractors and consultants responsible for delivering projects and work with the Project Delivery Manager to address any concerns
- Undertake project management of select projects
- Ensure projects transition effectively into asset ownership
Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheako - Essential skills and experience
You will ideally hold relevant tertiary and project management qualifications, with a minimum of five years' experience leading vertical construction and/or structures related projects through the full lifecycle, plus:
- Senior level experience delivering a portfolio of projects
- Advanced knowledge of programme and project management techniques that support effective project planning and managing multiple projects
- A team player who is outcome focused with the ability to build successful working relationships with key stakeholders including technical experts from a range of disciplines to reach successful outcomes
- Strong commercial acumen and working knowledge of a variety of commercial contracts
- Knowledge of the requirements in relation to health and safety management with a proven ability to lead a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture, and awareness of obligations and requirements in relation to employment conditions and cultural responsiveness
Desirable:
- Experience working with Kaupapa Māori, competency in Tikanga and a dedication to applying Te Ao Māori lens
- Demonstrated experience successfully leading and managing a team in a complex public facing environment with working knowledge of Local Government legislation
