Te āheinga - The opportunity

Puke Ariki has a national reputation for their joint library, museum and research centre situated in New Plymouth. Presently we have an exciting opportunity for a Librarian at our Community Library in Bell Block. Our community is at the heart of our library and we are looking for people who understand how the changes in society, technology, and education impact the work that libraries and community spaces undertake.

This position offers a hands-on librarian role within a team of library professionals. As one of the team you will be dynamic in your customer service style and enthusiastic about contributing to the big picture of the library team and service. You will be fluent in technology and have a flexible approach to taking on a variety of operational tasks as required and a can-do attitude. Bell Block Library is open five and a half days a week serving a diverse range of customers and the roster includes some weekend work.

The position is for 19 hours per week and includes the provision of library services including readers' advisory, programming for all ages and collection management; and Council services including rates payments and property enquiries.

Tino takohanga - Key responsibilities:

- Undertake rostered shifts to deliver efficient and effective service of Library and Council Services including public computer and printing services, RFID circulation, Readers Advisory, reference and directional assistance, Council service enquiries and transactions
- Proactively assess and prioritise customer needs, responding to their requirements through the provision of professional services at all times
- Provide circulation support functions and ensure the library and its collections are presented in an attractive and tidy manner
- Provide efficient and effective services and public programmes for all ages

Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheako - Essential skills and experience:

- You will have excellent customer service experience and be fluent in the use of technology and digital literacy.
- A library qualification and public library experience is desirable.
- A driver's licence and access to a car is required.
