At Bumblebee Bakery we bake fresh Organic Artisan Sourdough Bread and make all sorts of things delicious, fragrant and beautiful for the people of our beloved community in Taranaki and beyond.

Kia ora! I am Franziska, the founder and baker of Bumblebee Bakery.

Growing up in the bread heavens of Germany and France a deep love for sourdough bread runs through my veins. For us, a well-crafted bread can easily be part of every meal. Made from the most basic ingredients, flour, water, salt, and seeds, it’s the long sourdough fermentation process that brings out delicious flavours and creates bread that is good for body and soul.

Coming to New Zealand more than a decade ago with four children with a healthy appetite, baking our own bread made total sense. While initially baking with commercial yeast, making pure sourdough bread became my favourite challenge and holy grail. Feeding countless guests at our big family table kept the oven running, led to pleading bread requests from close friends and acquaintances, and finally resulted in the start of our Bumblebee Bakery. It’s run from our registered kitchen, destined to spread sourdough goodness all over Aotearoa / New Zealand.

By providing traditionally fermented sourdough bread and championing its many benefits, it is our mission to re-ignite people’s love for their daily bread.
