Voted one of New Zealand's favourite beaches, Back Beach is a must visit.
A popular swimming beach over the summer months and frequented by experienced surfers year-round, who can make the most of the shifting sand banks.
Back Beach also has a huge sand dune that you can run down if you dare to scramble back up.
Overlooking Sugar Loaf Marine Park and Paritutu, Back Beach can be quite sheltered.
Enjoy a walk along the beach, taking in the changing cliffs and the stunning scenary.
Plenty of car parking is available at the bottom or the top.
